Scalpay is a small island off the east coast of the
Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and
is only 10 minutes drive from Tarbert which is the centre
of Harris.
Harris
is mainly rocky, mountainous terrain, differing from
the other islands in the archipelago of the Hebrides.
There are excellent waymarked walks throughout Harris,
including one on Scalpay. These walks vary in levels
of difficulty and duration.
The
island's income comes mainly from fishing and many families
have their own fishing boats.
Scalpay
is a quiet, friendly island and a stay here will do
you the world of good - the fresh sea air, the history,
scenery and welcome will become memories which will
never leave you.
